Hi All,

I have come across this question in the bristol question bank regarding smoke hoods but it gives both answers as correct in different questions.

A smoke mask is -

mask with flow on request and covers the whole face
or
continuous flow mask and covers the whole face.

Any ideas which it is please??

Thanks :ok:

Smoke masks and smoke hoods are two different things.

Smoke masks are worn by the flight deck
They get their oxygen from the diluter demand regulators so it is on demand.

Smoke hoods are worn by the cabin crew.
They get their oxygen from a small chemical generator, so it is continuous flow.

If you look at the questions again you may now see that they are slightly different.

Thankyou Keith. You are correct - the questions do differentiate - many thanks for your help. :)

As a note:
Smoke hoods cover the entire head.
Some airlines use full face masks, others use nose-mouth masks and separate eye covering modules.

I advise any pilots who don' t have on-board eye-protection equipment to carry tight swimming goggles along when you fly.
Irritating smoke in the cabin can blind you.
You don' t know when that Cessna or Piper is going to start smoking.

It' s better to be ridiculous when someone finds out that you carry one than to be dead.
