The use of CD / minidisc players, portable GPS units etc.
What is the policy of the various airlines with regard to the use of these onboard aircraft in flight?
The preflight safety brief from S.A.S bans the use of "items containing a transmitter OR receiver, including CD players" (and presumably MiniDisc players. Likewise passive GPS units.
Braathens make no mention of receivers, only transmitters (so GPS OK except for T/O and landing?).
I have flown ABZ-LHR and been invited to the flight deck so that the Captain could take a look a Skyforce Skymap II.
Why the variation in policy? is it just easier for some airlines to employ a blanket ban to make the announcements easier?
Why are CDs and MiniDiscs a problem? http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/confused.gif
Advice please from anybody in the know...
