flight ops jobs with the UN?

Anyone know anything about flight ops jobs with the UN? Do they even exist? I would have thought that they have their own people organizing the ferrying of things (aid, guns, etc) round the world for them (rather than outsourcing everything), but I might be wrong.

If anyone currently works for them in flight ops or a related field and can give any pointers - please reply!

AFAIK, the U.N. contract all flying to private companies.
They are often mandated to paint their aircraft in UN colours.

Otherwise the U.N. uses military resources from several countries in peacekeeping missions.

I don' t think that they operate any squadrons in house, the reason being that they don' t have that kind of budget for mid/long-term investments.

Would like to work for someone who does some good in the world - only problem is the only work experience i have is in flight ops!

Maybe it's time to learn a new skill...

With respect pal, if you want to work for someone who does good in the world you might like to reconsider your targets. I'd suggest that the UN frequently, if not usually fails to achieve that category.

Does good for itself, sure. Pay, pensions, lifestyle, continuity of work are all excellent, but that's about it.

You can try to work there as volunteer. Later on they could give you (low-paid) assignments.

With your experience in Flight Ops you could try United Nations Humanitarian Air Services. I think WFP is in charge of this operation and I know recently they have been recruiting. You could also try

unjobs.org. That could start you off.

I just checked UNjobs and they seem to have some occasional vacanies for flight ops.

I' m sorry, I didn' t know that they managed some of their flight dispatching within their operations.

The requirements for UN jobs are usually very high. Most of them ask college education and a whole bunch of experience.

I saw what appeared to be one version of their website (looks like the more 'official' one) at this address:

and then i found that one you suggested too through unjobs.org (where they have lots of air ops positions in places like afghanistan and sudan) but i think that looks more like an unofficial site showing jobs accross all the un-affiliated organisations. Would certainly consider going to either of those places for a couple of years to do a job like the one advertised in Herat, but one of the requirements is that you speak at least one of the local languages. it's disappointing as i reckon i have enough experience and a strong academic background, but i can understand why that particular language criteria is part of the job spec in such places. i wonder if it's only in places like afghan and sudan that people like the un manage their own ops?

You should also try www.reliefweb.int (http://www.reliefweb.int). I saw a couple of flight ops jobs in the DRC. The company is Canadian and requires French speaking individuals
