what are the sixteen tents on the far, private, side of Geneva airport? they seem to be inflatable plastic structures

They are mini aircraft hangars.

thanks for that, it seemed the most logical answer - given where they are - but couldn't see any access point for an aircraft

Access points/doors are only visible from the flying club side.
