I'm seeing one of the advertised advantages of Professional is the XP emulation mode. Does this mean it won't run on the H-Premium, or just that one would have to download the patch to make it run.

(I had to do that for the RC, and that's supposed to be Ultimate.)

A BTW. Is it possible to just buy the Word part of Office? I don't recall ever seeing it sold separately.

Yes it needs professional to run, see Download Windows XP Mode (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx)

I had no Idea that it was that much!! Glad I don't like it:}

I've been using the Beta to 'edit' other people's books, but I keep gravitating back to Word Perfect for mine. I thought at first it was because I felt comfy in it, but really, for most everyday work, it's just plain better. 18 years old, an all.

Ah, pipped me to the post. I've seen a Professional at $137, but I think it was used. I get the feeling that people might think they can register it, then sell it on.

This OEM thing is odd. Well over a $100 saved by having plain wrapping. Pro comes out at $149 plus tax of 8.25%

They state categorically that there is no difference in the software.

OEM doesn't come with upgrade rights.

That's interesting. Better get the Pro then.

Also, the guy implied that a normal pack would contain 64 and 32 bit soft. "you have to choose...when you buy the OEM."

I trust it wouldn't be barred from normal updates...would it?

I've learned that I can't trust what they say at the store. "Vista can be updated to W7 free (when you buy a new computer)." was one of their better mistakes.

Some of these prices are astonishing in their variation from the 'norm'.

Thanks for the above links.
