Should emergency slides/doors be more reliable?

Should emergency slides be made more robust, easier to operate by cabin crew, and less prone to damage by fire or sharp objects? Are cabin doors strong enough to withstand perhaps a minor accident and still be opened quickly. A number of accident reports have shown that slides have punctured/failed to inflate, doors have jammed, slides have blown onto unusable angles all leading to congestion at the usable exits. With all the technological advances in the aircraft, should more be done to help passengers and crew in the event of an evacuation?

. . . or should slides be less "reliable"? I've been told that cabin crew, or other passers-by, can get some nasty injuries when they "go off" when they shouldn't especially when the door's still closed!

IMHO most unsked deployments are caused by Cabin Crew not following procedures.

Or by equipment that's "les than perfectly maintained"?

...or by ground crew opening doors from the outside without checking properly if the door has been disarmed. There is supposed to be a fail-safe that prevents a Boeing slide from deploying when the door is opened from the outside- but this is not foolproof.
