Does anyone have an update on whether the UK CAA will (when) permit FI's to operate on an PPL rather than having to go through the CPL flying and groungschool?

The decision now rests with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), not the CAA.

Under the CAA you can already teach the PPL course without being CPL rated, you just can't be paid for it.

EASA are changing the rules however. According to their proposals, PPL holders will, in future, be permitted to teach the PPL syllabus and be paid, once they have amassed a minimum numbers of hours (250?) and passed an FI course.

EASA don't take control of FCL until 2012 however, so you may be in for a bit of a wait.

Thanks Jez, much appreciated. Maybe I'll go through the CPL anyway.
