Pre-IR Reading

Hi all,

I've not long passed my CPL (A) and I'm hopefully going to start the IR in the not to distant future.

Can anyone recommend any Pre-IR course studying etc ? A few off my Instructors have given me some pointers like reading up on procedures and the Jepp manual, any one think of out else what would be useful before i start the course ?

David Hoy used to have a little potboiler out called, predictably, the Instrument Rating. I belive it was updated, but it's worth a read.

I agree with Paco, David Hoys' book is great. Get RANT too (to practice what you've learnt in the book) and you are well away. I think the RANT cd is written by a CAA staff examiner and he contributed towards the book as well.

Im looking for the same thing for IR , and also for CPL, and multi engine procedures in IR and CPL. All for JAA

I think that if you go to the pratical training with alot of previous knowledge in what to perform you will make it through easier and have time to explore more things, thus being a better pilot.

This is what military pilots do, and i have seem cadets with 10 hours flying, being on the same level or higher than people with a private pilot licence.

I have two guys, from diferent years, from where i live, they are became figther pilot instructors with around 200H, but they where also top of class during 5 years academic classes

you need to learn and go throughall the instructions, learn holds, hold entry, timing, tracking and arc's, VORs + procedures......

And SID's and Stars
+ go through the plates some you no where to find information and where it is on the plates

yes it can seen boring going through everything, in the self-tutor area, but trust me.. if you don't understand any of this. its some between £350-£500 an hour in a Twin, thats £6- £8.5 a minute. very, very costly........

an simulator is still around £250/£350 an hour too!!!!

Thanks for the info, better to spend time at my PC then :) Like I said I've not really had a good look at the program, but as a lot of people swear by it and just the points you make alone make it well worth the effort.
