Hi Guys and Gals

I am going to head over to PNG late this year to try my luck at getting a flying gig. I have around 800hrs TT and just wondering if this is enough to give me some chance at landing a job? All my time has been via instructing and I also hold a MECIR.

Any insight would be great.

Cheers

I'll bite...

As always, try a search as this has been a common question.

eg http://www.pprune.org/dg-p-general-aviation-questions/354788-north-coast-aviation-png-updated.html

1000 hrs minimum was the norm and generally (being diplomatic) a few hundred hours circuit bashing would not be considered as highly as remote charter work or similar. For your own safety have a good look at the information on here and ask your self if you would be happy doing this kind of thing

up to 30 times a day in crap wx and then deal with the chance of having a gun pointed at you on the way home.

There have been a few accidents the past six to twelve months. As with most places around the world the levels of experience are dropping which means if you do want to go then make sure you know what you want/expect from every situation before commencing otherwise you may be surprised/disappointed/shocked/dead!

When I flew up there the min was 2000 Hrs, once again a broad base of flying will prepare you better than circuits in a C-172. So get out there and do fishspotting,oil/powerline surveys, charters, para drops, glider towing etc.

Once you have the magical 2000Hrs get a backpack, jump on a plane and go and visit all the operators. You will be able to scrounge lifts from one port to another. They will not usually employ from a resume as the PNG experience is so different they will want to see you in person and suss out how you fit in.

Good Luck.............Don't do anything stupid quickly!

North coast is the spot, bit of island hopping and coastal runs, you've nowhere enough experience for the highlands yet mate

I tend to agree the flying is very challenging even for experienced pilots , hence the 1000hr mark set as a min

You may well have 25,000 hours all in PNG, it still remains challenging
