Whilst driving my train past the end of Cardiff's runway this evening, I observed a BA 744 climb out of 12 and turn westbound. It was climbing away from the airfield and not returning downwind.

Any ideas if it was off across the pond for storage or something??

Around 16:00 a BA B744 reg G-BNLK departed from EGFF towards Heathrow, but that is the only BA 747 today.

GBNLK positioned up to CWL shortly before Christmas but duly arrived back 'home' this afternoon and is off across the pond with fare paying passengers tomorrow.

Do you mean aircraft took off Runway 12 (easterly runway) and made a left turn towards a north westerly direction (Wenvoe tv mast) on BCN SID departure?

Yeah.

Assumed Heathrow would be via an Alvin1b.

Cheers!!

Usually BCN 1B. In the summer you get a nice view down from Cosmeston Lakes on a clear day as their climbing towards BCN

Anything to with BA having it's heavy aircraft maintenance done in Cardiff...
When maintenance completed, position back to LHR for first flight ex check.
This has been going on for many years..
