Would be very grateful for any feedback on Air Berlin (ex-LTU?) route MUC-CPT, especially if anyone has experience of sending UMs.

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, total lack of input, plus 100+ views equals one thing: go with LH/LX!!! At least I know what I will get from them..................

All I've ever heard about Air Berlin is good but doubtless there will be some horror stories somewhere and there are other forums in Europe and Africa to try. AB appear to run an A330 on the route which will be very profitable.

I can't comment on this particular route but I use them quite a bit both SH and LH to the US. In my humble opinion they offer a good, reasonably priced product. In Y class they are mostly par with Lufthansa, BA and others. Their C class is not quite as good but considering the average price for a ticket still okay. And in 5 years or so of flying wiht them I only had one real bad experience.
Can't comment on the UMs but I'd say it's worth to give them a try.

Sorry for the tardy reply... been away. We have used Air Berlin (LTU) many times over the years out of DUS. Always been good value for the money charged. Since the introduction of their First Comfort Class a few years ago we have flown up front to Miami, Los Angeles and Cape Town. Service and seating was up to (old) Lufthansa standard and Cape Town at e2200 each return was not expensive. We have also used Emirates to Joburg. It was about the same price in Business but with a stop in Dubai. Air Berlin is a direct flight out of Munich and is straight down so no jetlag I would say a good one for a UM. Don't know if Air Berlin accept UMs though. Economy looked tight, much tighter than when they were a one class service but probably ok for a UM.

Many thanks for all replies, lots of useful input. Unfortunately, initial departure airport not MUC, so that add-on (within Europe, I hasten to add) adds up to approx 400 EUR(!). Also, arrival/departure time CPT totally anti-social (05.30-06.25 local) - causing fairly major local probs (am sure PAX-Boy can furnish further info - not a good idea to be on the roads in this part of the world at that time of day, believe me!!) So looks like have to go with LH/LX (again!). BTW, Etihad even less helpful re UMs:(

Thanks MHG, but acceptance or not of UMs not the main issue here - problem was high tkt price LUX-MUC, which, combined with MUC-CPT price, added up to (lots) more than LUX-FRA-CPT with LG/LH (got a last-minute confirmation today:)). Also, as LG and Air Berlin are two non-aligned airlines, 2 separate tkts so no connection guarantees. Add this to totally anti-social arrival/departure times in CPT and you end up with good old LG/LH (again!). Now if SOMEONE could explain W-H-Y LH discontinue their FRA-CPT routing between April and October, I'm listening............... Maybe they've heard of World Cup being held in SA this year?????:ugh:
