9Q-CAA, formerly N54354, it used to fly for TWA in the US. Also flew for Capital Air Cargo in the USA. It kept the N-reg for its first couple years in the DRC. CAA was using it as a freighter.

Haven't heard any news about survivors.

les dernieres de la RDC:
from an HBA'Eng:
""CAA cargo 727 (super 27) landed this morning on 06 and went off to the left of the runway.
Was standing outside the Hewa Bora hangars when it landed in very heavy rain and substantial standing water on the runway. Aquaplaned opposite the tower, skidded right on the main gears then went out of sight. Next thing we heard a loud bang and saw the aircraft off the left of the runway facing west.
Wind Calm, VIZ 1-2KM, FEW@200', SC 1500' OVC 12000' CB's in all sectors.
The fire trucks raced after it and made it to the scene in seconds, heavy rain at the time and luckily didn't burn.
Airport was closed for about 1hr and opened again after debris was cleared. Firemen reported that all the gear had been torn off. From my last look at it, it had rolled onto it's right wing but still right-way up.
As far as I know....all the crew out safely.""

Is this Tim Roman's operation?

Affable Tim was managing Wimbi Dira Airways. Not sure they still operate these days.

Looks like Kabila burried its two competing operations (Wimbi Dira and just recently Hewa Bora) in favor of the Brussels Airlines/Lufthansa stealth project named "Korongo" (f.k.a. AirDC).

How long before we see 727 parts on the market and in every little shop along the airport road ?
