We've got a nightstop in St Johns, Newfoundland end of Jan (looking forward to it!).
Any recommendations for hotels, bars etc please?
Thanks,
Jez

Let Shell take care of you. Best hotel in town is (I think - was a bit tired when I got there!) CrownPlaza, they'll book you there unless otherwise instructed.

Seems like a good place, but the UTC -3.5 is a bit annoying!

Cambioso,

Without a doubt you have to check out The Murray! A very homey boutique type place that is within stumbling distance of George St. No one room is the same and they hopefully (still) stock your fridge with two locally brewed brewskies and two bottles of water, gratis of course as part of the outstanding Newfie hospitality.
If this is your first overnight in YYT, get out of the hotel, hit George St and listen to the great music and meet some wonderful people!

Have fun,

Head down to George Street and have a blast

George Street
The short street is populated mainly by bars and pubs and is only open to pedestrians in the evenings and during most of the business day, only being open to traffic from 8:00am until noon, to allow bars to restock their goods. It is believed that George Street has the most bars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bars) and pubs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pubs) per square foot of any street in North America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America), and is known to have bars that are open later than most others throughout most of Canada (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada).

Delta Hotel /Convention Centre is close to George Street. At this time of year a walk from The Hotel Newfoundland can be gruelling.... Although many taxis are available. (The Hotel Newfoundland is an excellent hotel)
Christians on George Street is a good spot/ Trappers so as to be screeched in
Just down from The Hotel Newfoundland, I believe, Water Street is a small bar owned by an ex Eastern Provincial Airways engineer called the Windsock lounge. Excellent memrobelia, photos and radio controled aircraft hanging from the ceiling ie a flyable CL 215 in newfie government candy stripes. Jim is the InnKeeper. Quiet place but good for a few black labels in the afternoon...
You are guaranteed to have agood time...
PS the post above re bar "My Apartment " thats in Halifax...... Now thats another story
Happy New Year.
