950 Hrs - not an operational jet then! From the photo on offer, it looks like it might be one of the trials ones with a Tornado nose! How it got to Stellenbosch, however, is beyond me.

I have contacted my mate at Thunder City who can perhaps shed some light!

850000R = £69k :eek:

That's expensive. The one my syndicate bought only cost £6K but it had more miles on the clock!

If you can wait for another 12 months, you might get an F-111 or two for that price.......they go a little faster...

F-111 and Buccaneer not a fair swop I,ll take the Buccaneer any day. The F-111 an overpriced bomber as far as I am concerned.:)

Looks like the one at Bournemouth??Looks extremely like the one at B/mth.

You can even just see the white paint of the European Aviation colours beginning towards the tail.

And AFAIK, it's still at Hurn.

From one of my spies (our BAA Historian):

This is Bucc S2B mod, XX897, that had the AI 24 Foxhunter radar nose fitted. It has been kept in working condition at Bournemouth. The last thing I heard was that an American organization were purchasing it for around £40,000, and were planning to fly it in the USA. They wanted to fit an original Buccaneer nose to it, but the work to modify it with the Foxhunter nose at RS & RE Pershore took some 18 months.

This from another in Stellenbosch:

The chap just returned my missed call. Sounds like the name is H*****, but the line was bad. He is flying home from Dakar today, and is indeed based in Stellenbosch. The plane is in the UK, and it seems he is just a go-between or broker.

This from my Thunder City contact:

"Complete aircraft, 950 hours, needs airworthiness certificate"!!

The ad reminds me of what Harry Adams once said about the "art" of what the Americans call "dumbing down": Simplicity is the most deceitful mistress that ever betrayed man.

Not 100% sure but ....

think this may be the jet that Mark Arnold (ex GR1 and F3 nav) delivered with his mate (errr CJ?) a few years back to some rich South African chap. They staged via Italy, Egypt and Djibuti as far as i can remember with a whole load of adventures on the way.

Justanopinion,

Don't think that's right. Unless it has been to South Africa and back again! Check above.

Slightly off post but was back up at Elgin recently and Ian still has his Bucc on the front off his petrol station (picts inc) and i noticed on it that there is a few bomb symbols(12) denoting bombing missions does anyone know if this airframe did go to war or is it just for the tourists?

The Bournemouth Bucc is in really good condition. Until about 18 months it was maintained to fast taxi standard by RAF Engineers in their spare time and did some 100kt fast taxi runs at Hurn. Low hours, no corrosion and reasonable engine life left it would make a good proposition for someone (at the right price) The Tornado nose section can be removed fairly easily to revert to a proper Bucc , according to the guy that designed the modification anyway!:ok:

Wasn't it being kept in good nick to use the engines in an attempt on the Water Speed record? I seem to remember the boat was being assembled in East Mids airports' visitors centre. I suppose the guy saw sense at last.
