I used this site a few years ago when I was in Melbourne on course for 10 weeks.

Share Accommodation By Flatmate Finders - Sydney and Melbourne (http://www.flatmatefinders.com.au/)

There are many sites like it, and I myself was very lucky that I got a fully furnished room close to the city, with restaurants & pubs and only 20 mins to the airport. The end result was a great place that cost me 80% less than a serviced apartment, and most importantly, someone to talk to and socialise with when I didnt have my head in the books.

Quest are pretty good. There are quite a few in the CBD area - off the top of my head, Carlton (Royal Lane?), Little Bourke St, Bourke St (Docklands - Telstradome/Emirates Stadium concourse).

Anyone have any further advice on finding some reasonably priced short term accommodation in MEL? 6 weeks required, preferably close to the Ansett Sims at Tullamarine. Cheers for any input.

Ciloms Airport Lodge

398 Melrose Dr, Tullamarine VIC 3043, Australia (03) 9335 2788
Stayed there quite a while ago for Sim/Ground course - 3 weeks
Courtesy bus to training center and airport, walking distance to the Ansett Sim center.
Staff were good. Cold beer. Restaurant.
Melbourne Airport Club across the road.
Airport West shopping Center 5 minutes up the road.
Costs were ultimately tax deductable.

Ciloms is the family name backwards - Smolic

I have no idea on the rates now but they did discount for longer stays.

Good Luck

Some options being suggested are expensive. The Gladstone Park Hotel is the closest accommodation. They may quote for an extended stay.

Hey mate,

ABY aviation at Essendon airport...if things haven't changed since mid 09 they have a 4 bedroom unit, with shared kitchen above their hanger at Essendon, (all furnished and equipped, couple of bathrooms and a laundry.) Was a great place to stay while I was flying outa there. Nice and cheap and you can choose between a double or a single...obviously the single being a little cheaper. Easy walk to trams, cab to the airport if you wish is about 5 mins..shopping centre at Essendon Fields.
I highly recommend it.
Just have to get used to being woken up at 6am on the dot every morning by the squadron of aerocommanders that is GAM's! :)

Cheers,
