Cobham bags Chevron flights deal
Date: Wednesday 09 Dec 2009

Defence and aerospace group Cobham has won a A$170m (£95m) contract to provide flights in support of the US oil company Chevron’s operations in Western Australia.

Cobham will operate flights going from Perth and Karratha to Barrow Island to support operations such as the Gorgon project.

The project extends to 2016.

‘The Chevron contract award is very significant for Cobham,’ said chief executive of Cobham Aviation Services Australia, Peter Nottage.

‘It involves the introduction of new aircraft variants and positions the company for continued growth in the Western Australian resource industry market through to 2016.’

Great news for the boys and girls. Looks like you have turned the corner from the contract losses a year ago.:D

New aircraft variants? RJs?

Bet you its bringing a tear to the eye of their competitors. Cobham is cleaning up all of the contracts one by one, every one of them. Looks like they really are the market leader.

The four-engine planes were chosen mainly for safety reasons because of the risk of bird-strike on Barrow Island.

That's only because they couldn't find any 6 engined ones.

I remember changing 2 engines on a 146 up thereafter a birdstrike, and still having to 3 engine ferry it out.

The Bristow boys put on a good BBQ in their hanger though.

For a major aviation contract in Australia, there has been no coverage in print in 'The West'. Maybe GT could not get permission from HD to run the story.

Good point. Can we expect you to go to print on this contract Mr Thomas?

I would have thought that the largest FIFO resource contract in Australian history would warrant a report?
