TELETEXT Sat 30 Mar 02. .. .'NO' TO FRONTLINE WOMEN SOLDIERS . . . .Women soldiers will not be allowed to serve in frontline combat zones alongside men, it has been reported. . . . .Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon will announce the decision following a two-year study of the issue. . . . .The report is believed to conclude that the vast majority of servicewomen would not be physically capable of taking part in close combat roles. . .. .Thats not very PC and equal opportunity now is it?. .Millions of pounds spent on unrealistic objectives? Thats a first for Great Britain <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" /> . .. .Flame resistant suit at the ready, Ladeez this is a "quote" straight off the telly, not my own.

Anyone know, now we have female aircrew if we have ever launched a female only crew in an operational theatre ?? If so did they get to the tgt or just divert and go shopping ?

Whilst we could easily have launched a female only crew, what would be the point of such stupid positive discrimination?

I gather that there's to be a media circus next week to feature our lady aircrew - but why? They've proved that they can crew aircraft quite happily and on their own merits - so why is there any need for such an event?

Jointery Lad,

Whilst in Northern Ireland, I seem to recall top covering a 72 Sqn Wessex that had an all female crew. (The Sue Crew?)
No doubt someone from 72 will put me straight.

In the time I have been in NI the AAC have had a female Gz and LX crew (including female doorgunner). Apart from problems finding a parking space, they seemed to do quite fine.

BEags: Quite, but perhaps the reason is that there are still some who haven't got the message yet?

Jeep, I think all that guiness has finally addled your memory!

Although they took some photos of the would-be 'all female crew', they never, ever flew together - and I think Helmut Visorcover may be able to back me up on this one!

I think people were worried that if it the crew were having a bad hair day then a cry of 'Let's do the f**king village' would have gone out over R650.

And lets face it, the chance of a bad hair day on that crew was pretty high...

Bitchingly yours,

Chris
