Anyone out there who can recomend a basic hotel for a few days lay over in N'djamena as the international standard ones are way too expensive.?

Try Chezwhu (opposite to the Nouveau Hotel). Its clean and has good chinese food (August 2008).

Yup-clean and good food perhaps US80-100 per night or around there. Novotel US200 getting shabby. Both right at the airport and gets noisy at times.

The Kempinski was nice...
It was so damn expensive that you always just about had the whole massive place to yourself when you stayed there.
...even so...to go back to that shyte-hole country, you'd have to pay me in many thousands of Coca-Cola share certificates.
