More training being offered for DEFO that are underperforming, or previous experience.

Here's a novel idea, how about some FO training for the SO's that are being held back?:mad:

For a moment I thought I read "more training for the DFO who is under-performing".

But I guess that would only be a rather distant and unsettling dream...

A little birdie told me there is currently ONE SO on JFO course.

It has come to this - they won't even put two guys on a course. The waste of instructor and sim time as well as having to schedule other FO's to support the JFO on upgrade is stupendous.

Or is someone trying to make a point to the SO's ?

Why would CX train SO's now? They got nearly all the NAM guys on CoS 08. They would have to pay B-scale bypass if SO's started to go. I would expect a slow trickle for as long as CX can get away with it.

You guys really need to get over this DEFO thing. Virtually every airline in the world hires FO's into the RHS.

Griv, its not the DEFO "thing" its the way the company has hired them over upgrading the current, more senior SOs, most of whom came to CX with jet time and then attempting to sidestep their contractual obligations with regard to bypass pay:mad:. They have rather weakly tried to say it was for expansion, not because they were cheaper to hire....:rolleyes:
Not to mention looking down the barrel of 4+ years as an SO, seeing guys with less time than oneself, upto 2 years less senior sitting in the RHS and :mad:ing it up....and now we see they are getting more training sectors.....what a can of worms:yuk:

Well done NR:rolleyes::D

Are you guys honestly surprised this is the way Cathay is?
We all joined (SOs that is) post 49ers. We are all aware of the beast that is Cathay. Come on, make some dosh out of the housing allowance, take a temp base and don't get so upset about a situation that will not change. The DEFOs are here to stay, wrong or right and there isn't a damn thing any of us can do about it. Just sit in the jump seat and work out how much of your apartment that Cathay has payed off this month.

Works for me.

One of my amusing exchanges re promotion was some years ago and went as follows:
I'd left GF to return to BA just as I was #2 on the list for L1011 command assessment after four years (pretty good, I thought, even for ex RAF with 14 years airline experience). A couple of years later, on a B744 nightop SIN, we got talking to a couple of Australian GF FOs.
They were having a big moan about not being captains after nearly two years in the company.
When I pointed out that two years as FO was not very long their response was "You know, we've flown aeroplanes before we joined GF, mate!"
How we laughed. :):}
