Hi guys

i was just wondering if anyone knows the figures of
1) How many people APPLY to become a pilot with the RAF each year?
2) How many make it to the apptitudes each year?
3) How many actually get chosen to be a pilot each year??

Cheers
Dave

Lots apply, 240 get taken on a year at the current requirements.

But don't let the stats put you off. If you want to do it, apply. You may be just what the RAF want.

Good Luck.

blimey, 240. I hought it was only about 120 and there are about 1200 pilots in the RAF (old, old figs but we had more a/c then too)

There are some interesting sums here though

Number applying, minus number failing paper sift, minus number failing oasc, minus those failing cranditz, minus those getting disillusioned and leaving whilst holding before FTS, minus those chopped at flying training, all over those leaving. Do the sums add up?

120 is closer to the mark. On my IOT (the mighty 193IOTC) there are about 20 pilots, which I believe is typical. 6 IOT course a year graduate, making 120.

I've got no idea how many apply.

Seeing as in another thread you're asking questions about laser eye surgery, you can forget it mate. Harsh rules but hey, you were warned it would make you blind when you were younger!

Obviously you have misinterpreted my question because i havent had laser eye surgery.
And i wasnt warned about this when i was younger because im still only 17!

20 GD(P)'s per course, 6 courses per year does indeed make 120, but sadly not all get through. I was chopped off 139 IOTC along with a shed load of other potential GD(P)'s. Of course in those days (91/92) there were 8 courses a year, each course lasted 18 weeks, Guinness was 80p in CHOM, and the world was all in black and white.
