Is 30 too old for the AAC, even if you already have a CPL(A) and are willing to learn to fly Helicopters to CPL standard before Joining (By the way its an FAA CPL(A)). .. .Cheers

I think you'll find that 30 is too old for the Army, let alone the AAC.

If you can prove you have been in the Army for a few days, you can get into the RAF as a Helicopter Pilot way past the age of 40 . .. .The AAC did take someone from the TA direct onto a pilots course once, perhaps it was because she was very experienced as a fixed wing pilot before applying.. . . . [ 27 March 2002, 07:27: Message edited by: Jeep ]

With aircrew shortages and retention difficulties as they are, am I alone in thinking that someone this keen, with these qualifications, should not at least be looked at by one or other of the flying services?. .. .I only say looked at, cos I do wonder about the motivation of someone who gets to 30 without applying, and of his likely ability to put up with the ****-factor inherent in the non-flying parts of service training. . .. .But that's easily determined at interview, and I'd wish him luck.

But I'm sure I'm not the only one.

30 is quite old especially as there is no retention problem in the Army Air Corps.. . I doubt very much if having a CPL will make any difference - ie, you would still have to do the course like every one else. By the time you finish Basic soldiering skils you would be 32 ish and by the time you made the min rank requirements to fly (Corporal) you would be 37-8 ish and my old pal is way over the hill.... The RAF will probably take you though they are desperate at the mo.... .Should have woken up a long time before "six mths ago" . .Good luck
