You have got to be impressed about the Indian Navy's delivery of a Gin and Tonic. On INS Viraat, it took three men to present you with a G&T. From silvertrays, white-gloved Gin man fills cool crystal glasses with ice and follows up with decanted gin. Tonic man adds the slice of lemon then pours the tonic carefully, to your direction; never too much. Factotum man takes charge of the pair, calling for refreshed jugs in good time to keep the G&Ts flowing.
On such detail, any Fleet Air Arm must succeed.

Surely building a 3rd would be the way fwd for them, the profit of that both offsetting the purchase costs of our two and also safeguarding workers jobs in the yards...

odd though isn't it, the fact that we cannot afford to build two carriers where as India can afford to buy one of them even though we donate £825 million a year to India in Aid,

A Country remember that can afford to buy carriers off us and equip their military and plan space missions........ am I missing something here???

UK to provide aid package to India | Number10.gov.uk (http://www.number10.gov.uk/Page14318)

Speaking ahead of talks with his Indian counterpart, Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister said he wanted every child to be given the"basic right to education". Around £500 million of the package will go towards health and education projects such as tackling HIV/AIDS and buidling schools, while the rest will be used on projects such as microfinance and slum development.

Shame our schools are going short and the likes of some parts of the UK are slum areas........ Still lets all pay to regenerate someone elses country, that way they can afford to buy our Carriers off us........

NutLoose, very true, and I've thought it many times before. Perhaps the time has come that India should be sending aid to the UK.

For bankrupt UK to be financialy supporting a regional superpower with a space program is bizarre.

How short our memories are!

Who else remembers the plan to sell a carrier to India in 1981

And then another unexpected event occurred...................

Or maybe finance rules all.

With a decisive leadership, and adequate resourcing, perhaps the RN should hand over to the Indian Navy off the Horn of Africa and come home.

TBM-Legend...
You didn't happen to read my post over on the "Future Carrier" thread before posting this, now did you? ;)
It was posted 1 hour 49 minutes before you started this thread... or is this a case of "great minds stink (er... think) alike"?

Its just more "outsourcing".

India will now perform the roles formerly done by the RN... New Delhi will soon announce the formation of the "British Isles Squadron" of the Indian Navy... specifically tasked with taking over the maritime security of the UK, and protection of its shipping interests.

If the Royal Marine Amphibious Squadron (the Albions & Bays) need a warship escort for any operations, the BIS of the IN will deliver the appropriate capability.

didn't read the whole 'Future Carrier' thread....:ooh:

point is that there is a changing of the guard. the BRIC nations are on the rise while the rest of us are heading south...

India sees this as payback for the 300 year plunder of that country I guess..
