Is there someone on these boards who would kindly let a retired colleague (me) know the current expatriate Hong Kong housing allowance for Captain, First Officer and Second Officer. I have a genuine help out reason for wanting to know. Thanks in advance.

20% less than what it was one year ago.

The silence seems to indicate this must be a matter of some sensitivity. A personal message ( PM ) would get around it and at the same time be appreciated.

Well done! Really brilliant lets have anyone else just asking on a public forum for our personal information and you will gladly supply it!:ugh::ugh::ugh:

I agree, a silly post. Are you really the AOA because I have a serious lack of faith in your involvement.

that's just brilliant. now we have enough material for the next round of "these pilots are overpaid and that's why my airplane ticket is so expensive" letters to the SCMP.
I just don't get it. Some people just cant wait to get information into the public domain that is simply no outsider's business. Like little schoolboys "Here, here, Mr. Teacher, I know something, please, please let me tell ...."

TheHKAOA - with all due respect: you, Sir, are an idiot.

I have to agree with the sentiment of some posters here. This is a very public forum and the information you seek is arguably (company) confidential. If you are indeed a retiree(and I'm not disputing that), then a quick email to a former colleague and a 5 minute phone call to housing by him/her could have elicited the same information should you have a real need for it. At worst, a PM to a few forum members could have also elicited the information you seek.

TheHKAOA? You're a ****. You made no attempt to establish the bone fide of someone seeking, in my view, confidential information and then posted it in a public forum.

Hear hear, I never authorized TheHKAOA to disclose my income/remuneration package to anybody whatsoever.

I feel this entire thread should be deleted.

That's nothing. Wait for the angry, cow-loving, south Lantau expat mob rounding up outside cx city with pitches, forks and torches to complain about cx pilots raising the rents down there.

If we don't think we are overpaid then we have nothing to be ashamed of by having people know what the housing is. If we think it is something that should be kept secret then perhaps that is more worrying because in the back of our minds we know it is because it is a lot of money.

It is nothing to do with "thinking" we are overpaid or that I should be "ashamed" of the housing allowance.

This is "personal" and "private" information!:ugh::ugh::ugh:

If they want to base us all overseas....fine. If not, then pay us an allowance that provides us and our families with a proper long term home. Who cares what anyone thinks.

I have no doubt the company will look to renegotiate the housing allowance. It will be interesting to see what happens when contract negotiations start.

geh065, if you are a pilot I suggest you don't change professions. Your view that if we think it is fine then it will be: is naive in the extreme. As much as we despise them; politicians and journos know that what matters is PERCEPTION. For example, since the financial crisis most people think bankers are all overpayed. Is this true? Partially, but there are a few who actually do earn their money and others who aren't paid as much as we would believe. But this is irrelevant, what matters is perception. Forces that would aim to reduce our conditions will use this public information in the future. They fully understand that if they can get the public to perceive that we are overpaid, then half the battle is won. We need to learn the same lesson and think before we post what may seem like innocuous information on a public forum.

How about we stand up for our profession for once as say damn right we get paid what we get paid and that is for the public's safety, when planes start crashing then people can comment, until then you get what you pay for. :ok:

I don't give a s&!t what people think, if they want my pay go get a pilots license like we all did! Why should we be ashamed of our pay it's not as good as it used to be, we seem happy to let public opinion and the industry drag us down to the lowest common denominator :ugh:

I absolutely agree which is what I was getting at.

funny you should hold that opinion Geh, you don't get a housing allowance do you?

How's about you publish on this public forum you monthly salary including HDP and any overtime?

nah, thought not...................

Our salary scales are available on other websites on the net. They are certainly no secret and for your info I do get housing!

Couldn't agree more. We must stop this 'belief' of being 'tried" by public opinion. The fact is (in North America) is most people do not have a problem with our pay packages....however it seems we continue to justify it....over and over and over again.

I think we need a reality check. Our pay maybe once was above average, it sure isn't any more. Every second class banker or buyer living in Hong Kong laughs about our package.
