I heard on the grapevine that 617 Sqn and IX(B) Sqn had a bombing competition yesterday to mark the 65th anniversary of the sinking of the Tirpitz and 617 resoundly beat the more senior (but less accurate) Sqn by some fair margin! I think it was a 15000ft MALB (or is that HALB for a GR4?!) onto one of the boats at Wainfleet. The real bulkhead was also on display at the trophy presentation afterwards but I don't think anyone stole it.......

Well done to the dambusters!:ok:

As I understand it, tomorrows Times will tell the true story.

(Caution: Story may not be true.)

Ah, but the "Service Dinner" section of the Telegraph today pointed out that the recent dining in at Marham celebrated the 65th anniversary of IX(B) Sqn turning the Turpitz upside down. So it can't have been the other lot!

I wonder if the Bulkhead callsign was used by the worlds premier bomber sqn?

Until I see scores, I shan't believe it! ... And no calling a "no spot" a DH!!!

Are you sure it was the real bulkhead and not a Humvee door :uhoh: Luckily the junior Sqn had left for Marham before the lockdown :ugh::ugh:

Now then, now then...

When I was a wee lad, we used to dig said 'Bulkhead' out of brick walls inside RAFG's most 'secure' Cold War airfield....actually not that secure was it :E:E
Back then that was all in the name of 'high jinks' - I'm lucky enuf to have been on both Sqns, so IMHO they BOTH sank it !!! :ok:

It's a war that's been going on for longer than the orginal one! This from 1992

I just loved the way that he kept it "in house" - Strikelist Alpha, SupplistC 2 and 3 and everything that we had left in Germany.

Tell it like it is :}

The real sinkers of the Tirpitz were the Barnes Wallis designed lumps of metal that hit the ship :E

So the Wallis family should get the bulkhead which should settle the dispute.

I wouldn't trust that Grommet with it.

Ah, why didn't he just hide it in his grow-bag?:)
