Heard on the grapevine that the Spitoon has been delayed further, which should incur penalties of some £18m for the consortium but the UK will let them off. The other nations awaiting delivery have demanded the delivery or the penalty payment. Apparently there will be one frame in the corner of a hangar at Warton with RAF painted on the floor next to it - as evidence that one is available for Air Officers to have their photos taken next to. . .. .There is a problem with engine blanking reducing max speed, air-to-air and air-to-ground capabilities planned to be ready at time of delivery won't be ready until 2005/6, hands-free handling not yet fully functional and the helmet doesn't work.. .. .Does anyone know the expected date of the Germans completely pulling out and when we expect delivery of some 2nd hand F16s?

My understanding is that the Warton Typhoon is there so the RAF can claim it has received the type and it is now 'in service'. Stretching credulity a little aren't we?
