Can anyone help me, in the 1940s (in case you have forgotten there was a war on) if a member of Aircrew refused to carry out a sortie (1) If he was NCO Aircrew he was stripped of his rank and put on some Menial ground job (2) If he was an Officer he was sent to rest up with NO LOSS of rank and he may be returned to flying duties later. Does this still stand as ther are still mixed rank aircrews.

Good question SPIT. .I am not sure if any rules still exist but in this modern caring. .Air Force i think we would all get a pat on the back and a good. .nights rest, well perhaps the officers would anyway!. .Seriously though i still like to think most of us aircrew are still. .professional enough to do what is asked of us. After all thats. .what we train for.( when we are not moaning about money)

Don't we just enter 'Flight conducted under duress' in the Auth sheets and do what we're told?

I heard just recently that 2 Canadians were sent home from the Bosnian fracas because, although they were happy to fly over exoctic and interesting people, they weren't willing to drop a bomb on them. Don't know what became of them when they got back to the frozen wastes.

In this day of political correctness, the task we are ultimately called upon to do seems less important than councilling someone who has stubbed his/her big toe and wants to sue for post traumatic stress disorder. You can't really blame these guys/gals for their actions, more a system that produced pilots with a complete lack of appreciation for what is expected of them. Peace, Love and fluffy bunnies to all tyrants around the World. Now where's my daisy chain?

Guys, If you want to know the answer its in AP3392 Vol 5 (thats the 'secret' management one that PMS holds) I am sorry but I can't give you the leaflet number becuase I've been exhiled away from bluntdom for a while.. .. .By the way, if I recall correctly, there is no difference between officer and airmen(aircrew) - apart from the huge difference in flying pay but I will not dare to tread this path.

Is the column in the auth sheet where the authorising officer inserts his signature still titled: "Signature of Officer ordering the flight"?
