Snappers weekend compo No5 (a serious one)

This weeks Caption Competition, although meant to be a bit of fun and banter,
comes with a serious note!
I was not sure whether to post these photographs, but the Pilot involved has
no objection and a number of other Military Aircrew have said I should.
So based on this, I have made the decision to do so.

As I said, my weekend competitions seem to be popular and are meant to be fun
So please, go for the typical, WHAT WOULD THE INSURANCE CLAIM FORM SAY?

However, please do not forget or for those who do not already know,
this incident happened last weekend at Waddo so there are ongoing
legal matters to deal with, so keep the answers within the boundary!

I want to make it quite clear that GS is happy for me to show these photographs
and that as far as I am aware it is clear where the car was at the time of impact!
I am not qualified to make any decisions on this matter, I just point the camera!
I also prefer the subjects to be going a bit faster! :)

If anyone thinks I have done something I should not,
I apologise in advance unreservedly. Please e-mail me straight away
at [email protected] and I shall remove the photograph.

Apologies for the long message, and PLEASE dont slate me for this.
However I feel we can all perhaps learn something from what
could have been a VERY tragic incident!

As you're being serious - so shall I. Sorry!

The car owner could be in the brown & smelly vis a vis their insurance cover, I'm afraid. All private car policies come with an "Airside Exclusion" nowadays - to whit, if your car is anywhere on an operational airfield where aircraft are in motion, or stored, or manoeuvring - it ain't insured!

Possibly many involved in the aviation biz, of all descriptions, might not know this. Read the small print.

Not all policies! NAAFI - rightly reviled for their dreadful shops - have done something very useful and come up with a policy which does NOT have an airside exclusion clause. It's also a very quick way of getting rid of cold-calling insurance agents - grill them about airside cover!!

Yes, well….

Speaking as the poor dork who was driving the aeroplane, when Snaps referred to making it clear where the car was – it was parked way out on the taxiway. Complete blind spot unless you engage in excessive weaving, which you’d do on an uncontrolled airfield but not when directed to use that taxiway by ATC and under the usual pressure to make a display slot.

Not that we charged off in a straight line, but the thirty degree turns every fifty yards to completely clear the nose are very difficult in this environment, and what with ATC and all the people hanging about you’d expect to be warned of obstructions.

Lesson learnt is that “assume” makes an ass out of you and me.

Fancy assuming that an active taxiway during an airshow would be kept clear!

Anyway, nobody hurt – thank God there was nobody in the back of the car.

As far as captions go, I thought something along the lines of “flying a dirty pass a bit low” would go well.

During the war a number of German aircraft were brought down by Russian fighters ramming them and chopping off vital bits with their props, so there is some precedent - except the car should have been a Volkswagen!

However, Henry T refused to help Britain in her hour of need, which is why the Merlin contract went to Packard, so maybe there is some 'poetic' justice here after all.

My caption suggestion is:

"These new variable length props do take some getting used to"
