Anybody familiar with "Bosman" or "Spartan" might be able to answer my question!

Where do you get your terminology from?

"On the texaco" I can understand but "Your parrot is green" or "Your parrot is sour" beats me every day!

Greetings from the chaps flying the white aeroplanes around Afghanistan - thanks for your help - and please keep us away from Boris!!

Regards - Dutchie

Brevity Codewords. Bit out of date and incomplete I'm afraid. But should satisfy most of your questions.

A bit of aviation trivia:

'Parrot' was the WW2 code for IFF (a time when every new bit of kit was classified and had a codeword) and when your 'Parrot' replied to an interrogation, it 'Squawked' - a term still used today!

Dutchie me old mate,. . Sorry if the old military terminology gets you confused. Our terminology is taken from a combination of area Special Instructions (SPINS) and accepted brevity codewords. The latter is always difficult as the US forces have their own terminolgy and expect everyone else to follow suit and understand! Mr Winterland is warm when he mentions IFF. However, for the official explanation away from this open forum, you really do need to get your operating authority to talk to the CAOC and/or 'Spartan' head office.. . Best of luck and I'll speak to you soon maybe!!. .M2

Hi there Dutch2.

Hope the big white Aeroplane gives you all you require. Do you have any requests for the 'Art' Gallery?!?!?!

As for Bosman or Spartan, Spartan wins every time. Maybe it's just our timing in going home, but it's always Spartan who lets us go. Anyway, they are from the better side of the pond!

One request from us though. Can you always make sure you have your A/A Tacan on as you approach us. We don't have TCAS out here and so it's a visual spot, reliant on range calls from Bosman/Spartan, if there's no range/bearing info from the Tacan. <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0">
