Atlantic West Lockheed Electras

Most of us would see them as Atlantic Airlines Electras.
With the fleet down to four airframes flying when is the expected date for them to be withdrawn??:{
I understand the Bournmouth contract for the Channel Islands is due up shortly which is operated by the Electra,will we see a change on this as the aircraft does very little flying and a lot of sitting around,day time at Jersey during the week and night time and weekends at Bournmouth.
It is a great sound every week day morning at 0530 local time as an alarm clock for the airport neighbours:O

I was talking to an Atlantic guy last night and he said they had 5 A/C still on the books although 2 were on C check at the moment. He thought the 2 C check A/C would run to at least 2012.
Also the BOH A/C was doing EDI mail as well as CI at the moment due to Titan being short of A/C.

Rumour has it that the Electra's are going to be sold, if the price is right. Customer is likely to be Canadian, for firebombing. The existing aircraft are undergoing or about to undergo C checks. Let's see what happens this time round. Will it be the points based redundancy game like last Xmas? This would probably be a good time for Electra pilots to trace their family tree. Who knows, maybe you can find a distant link between yourself and the FOD; this should give you a shot at saving your job.....fail that, a good time to join BALPA perhaps!

At the moment the service down to Jersey is being operated by a Boeing 737 300 freighter.

This could be due to the Electra being taken off to cover an Electra on a heavy check.

This is not the first time a Boeing 737 has been brought in, a similar thing was done early last year. :ok:

However, last time the Snake compiled his hitlist, the Company cr*pped itself when Balpa were asked to represent one of his targets.

The flights that Atlantic operated out of Coventry have been transferred across to Birmingham. There's usually a pair of G- & a single Westair (LX- reg'd) ATP operating from BHX. I don't think any of the Electra's have appeared at BHX as yet.

Coventry is "open" but as an unlicensed airfield at the moment so I don't know how it stands for positioning aircraft to & from EGBE for maintenance

Atlantic have managed to sell an Electra to Conair of Canada. A crack team of Atlantic's most people skilled management pilot and favourite FO have already delivered it to Canada. I am very excited about this as Conair was one of my all time favourite movies. Will Conair, be using the Electra to make a sequal I wonder? This time featuring the mighty Electra and Cookie at the controls? If so, it's going to be a big budget movie as they flogged it for $2milliion and used the proceeds to buy some derelict ATP's that have been sitting in Coventry. $2m for a 50 year old rusty Electra, please tell me Conair did not pay this kind of money?

As an aside, another Electra, has recently died a death. GLOFB was due to be sold to Conair and was awaiting delivery. Problem is the mechanics preparing the plane for delivery had a slight accident and imploded a fuel tank, writing the aircraft off. Whoops!

Conair of Abbotsford Canada are converters and operators of air tankers / fire bombers, not transporters of US convicts, so not likely sequel movie makers !

Ignore him, let's make this thread about fun and enjoyment of a truly great airplane rather than whinging about people, the company or personal gripes, leave the bitching for the 7...something, A....something systems operators out there with really nothing better to do other than bore themselves studying an autopilot and an FMC. (We'll all be there soon enough unfortunately!).

Hopefully this thread will get moved to where it belongs.....History and Nostalgia.

In the mean time the rest of us will continue to write exactly that.....History!
