WW1 Service Records

My father is currently researching the military career of his father in WW1. He has very little to go on, other than knowing that he served with the Royal Flying Corps, trained as an Air Gunner and was at one point in No.7 Balloon Wing. Can anyone point me towards an archive or other source where he can research this?. .. .Thanks
