Hey all,. .. .Odd as it may sound has there been an instance of anyone joining up as a pilot already with their JAR/CAA frozen ATPL?. .I know someone who's doing this - for their own reason's i.e. always wanted RAF but circumstances an' all - and it appears the RAF don't have a problem with it at all. In fact they seem quite encouraged by it!. .Personally I thought that they'd be of the 'bad habit's' opinion etc but it seems more like 'obviously trainable' and more of a sure bet. Could be wrong though!. .Welcome your comments but I can assure you it's not cause the commercial markets dried up! Application was pre-sept 11th.. .I was also wondering about whether they'd undergo full JEFTS training?. .Does that make them professionally qualified therefore eligible for enhanced pay and promotion? . .. .Cheers. .BUDGIE. . . . [ 10 March 2002, 15:10: Message edited by: BUDGIE ]

Hi Budgie,. .. .I know of one former civvie FI who joined up. He did go to JEFTS, but I'm not too sure how long he was there.. though it must have been amusing for all concerned! Saw him at Linton last Easter, so he must have been FJ streamed and be at Valley now.. .. .Regards,. .. .Tucano

He will probably avoid elementary.. .. .I came through from a UAS and we did and went straight to Basic for the short course.. .I beleave the same was true for a civi licence holder.. .Although this was a while ago and they even stream from UAS now. Also as I recall some ended up at Elementary if there holds had been so long that they could not remember what the thing between ones legs was used for before getting strapped into a Tincano.. ."Bad habbits" is a word that I heared a few instructors tell the PPL supper pilots once in a while generaly when they asked why they had to do the full course. But if you pass selection an. fATPL can only be seen as a reduced training risk in the financial RAF.. .. .Good Luck

Tucano, the ex civ FI you mention was on my JEFTS course and did indeed have to do the whole course as I understand, with the exception of the standard "15hrs +" amalgamation of earlier instruction. He did extremely well (and is also a diamond lad) and is soon off to Valley. Budgie, this may suggest that you'd have to do all of JEFTS also. Best of luck!!. .. .Rgds. .BL

I joined with a frozen ATPL, as did a couple of colleagues. There can be no assumed prior level of knowledge for obvious reasons, so you won't skip any flying training.. .. .Experience vs bad habits - it all evens out in the end. Have an open mind, never for a moment think that your experiences make you knowledgeable in the field of FJ / rotary. Don't brag!. .. .And good luck!

PS some instructors have a "good on ya" attitude, others instantly label you as a gash freeloader who'll jump ship as soon as you can. Sound them out before telling anyone.. .. .Enhanced pay and promotion - in (y)our dreams!
