A colleague has been tasked with getting together a potted history of the MLU/GR4 programme.

Can anyone help with good links/sources/info?

Thanks in anticipation

There's a reasonable Tornado book available which covers the GR4 programme in some detail, published by Midland Counties. It was originally to have been published by the Ben Fund, so is fairly 'official line' but honest about the problems and costs. It costs about £20.00. Give Simon Watson at the Aviation Bookshop (0207-272-3630) or Tony Eastwood at the Aviation Hobby Shop (01895-442123) a ring for current availability.

If you're refering to the one I think you are, it's by Midland, called "Tornado; Multi-Role Combat Aircraft", is an A4 softback, costs 18.95, ISBN 1-85780-096-6, and is flamin'excellent.

The GR4 came in on time, under budget, without limitations and performed to a standard in excess of the spec.

It did, didn't it? Or was it another of 't Bungling Baron Wasteospace's cock-ups???

How many squdrons of Bureaufighters were we supposed to have in service by now......

Didn't they take a jet from the 70s and upgrade it into the '80s just in time for the new millenium, only to restrict it more than the jet of the '70.

Having said that, I understand that some [all?] of the problemns are being resolved.

. ....or are they?
