Talking shop or sleeping, pilots miss their destination (http://www.theage.com.au/world/talking-shop-or-sleeping-pilots-miss-their-destination-20091024-he2a.html)

Federal investigators in the US struggled to determine what the crew of a Northwest Airlines jetliner were doing at 11,000 metres as they sped 240 kilometres past their Minneapolis destination, and military jets readied to chase them.

Instead of landing, the Airbus A320, with 144 passengers and three flight attendants, flew on, ignoring repeated radio calls from controllers and other pilots in the area as well as email messages from the airline's dispatchers.

Finally, the plane responded. It made a loop in the air and returned for a safe landing.

I would have liked to see that "loop in the air".

Think they rolled it off the top?.
