I am currently at 43F Sqn Leuchars and will be applying as an AEOp this summer. Reason for this being that I have a BEng Hons in Engineering and i bored to death with the amount of people telling me I am wasted as an AV Tech. I have been in the RAF for two years now and have already served in the Gulf. Can anyone please give me some advice.

1. Sounds like you joined in the wrong trade - why not a commission with your degree?

2. Have a browse through the other WSOP-related posts on the Forum to pick up a few thoughts and ideas.

3. When is your exit date? Go for your civilian engineering licence(s) and pick up big money!!

I think HalesAndPace is right in saying you should consider a commission. Having been an AEOp (soon to be known as WSOp) for nearly 12 years, there is no doubt in my mind that it’s a good job. The difference between Airman Aircrew and the Commissioned brethren is the high ranking top cover when it comes to pay and conditions. That said, in the maritime world the knockers (SNCOs) tend to have more of a laugh on detachment but if your looking long term you should book a room in College Hall. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Thanks for the advice, I dont think a commision is what i am really looking for, i know its what i should be going for, but if my head is saying no, then I shouldnt be one anyway. I would much prefer SNCO Aircrew, as you said you can always have just that bit more fun on detatchments.Money isnt everything, believe me as an SAC (T) i know what no money feels like. And as for Civie engineering, it bores the hell right out of me.

Regards to all that knew me (ex 201 and 47). .Sorry to hear they have done you over again. Not surprising though.

On a lighter note I was offered a job that was not suitable for me but may suit a dry man about to leave.

It is out of Prestwick as rad/op on Watchdog a/c. .Full time post 2 weeks on and 1 off doing Fishery patrol. Salary I reckoned to be about £26000. May have gone as I was slow to get on this prune thing! Contact man is Chris Macassey 01395 224232
