it appears as soon as BKK CC base has been closed that CC management wants to substantially increase the LHR base to max(currently about 300 to 500 the story goes). so much for excess crew in LH division:confused:

There is a total employment freeze at the moment. The cap on overseas bases with the closure of the BKK base is now significantly under the max but there are no plans to increase the london base at the moment.

when the effects of the GFC slow and there is an increase in yield and the cancelled flights from consolidation are reinstated naturally recruitment can start again but i dont see that happening in the near future.

the plan would obviously be to bring the entire operation back to maximum efficiency and when recruitment starts i have no doubt that the numbers in australia and overseas will be increased in accordance with the EBA

Is it true Pegasus that the numbers in the LHR base have to be a percentage of those crew based in Australia?

If this is true and they want to increase the number of Crew in London then there will also be a corresponding increase in Australian based cabin crew.

As you said in accordance with the EBA...

there is a cap on overseas based crew of 25% of the total establishment of International Division Flight Attendants. The Cap is a side agreement can cannot be contained in the EBA as it is "prohibited content" however the Company honours the side agreement.

With the closure of the BKK base and the resignations in LHR and AKL that have not been back filled for some time, the CAP is not near 25%

Notwithstanding this, given an operational surplus across the Division there is a recruitment freeze at present. I dont envisage recruitment for some time including LHR and that is why they are offering Part time now in London

and to add to what pegasus747 has already said the company has also stopped the crew exchange from Australia to LHR base. A lot of crew ( the newbies ) weren't happy with that as a lot of them had hopes to fly out of LHR base for 2 years.
Heard that it has stopped indefinitely till things go back to normal, which it has started already but it will take some time for things to go back to its good days $$$

It looks like it is finally going to happen.
Some patterns exist this roster on the 744 operated by Australian based cabin crew and London base on the same flight.
An error maybe, and then the London crew will have a last minute change, or is it the start of something new?

Glad I can help!
Obviously was a mistake then.
I think you mean QCCUK rather than QCCA though.:)

Apparently plans are now in place for the closure of the London base. It will be put before the board shortly to be signed off. The reason for the closure being continuing poor customer feedback, Sydney management being unable to maintain control of management of the base, continual high staff turnover and sick leave and cost savings now negligible with the introduction of QCCA Australian based crew.

When something is wrong, all the spin doctoring in the world wont make it right.
The only thing that made the LHR base look good was the Thais. When that base closed the service standards and product knowledge plummeted

With the greatest of respect to LHR crew, whether your QAL or QCCA , Aussie crew have immeasurable loyalty to the Brand......this is embedded into an Aussie's DNA..... crew really do go above and beyond in customer service. We are fearless protective of the Qantas Brand.....it is like our baby.....and we challenge anyone who may harm it. That is why we are so passionate about our company. We challenge our immediate managers, our group managers, our CEO, and even our union leaders if we feel they are not doing the right thing by our baby. That is why we have the most heated discussions, debates and disagreements on this forum, more so than any other airline. We have been banned by so many MODS and punted from one area to another only because we are being protective of our baby (and combined with intense passion ...the pprune rules get broken). I'm sure most of our staff would go to the front line to defend our Brand. It represents "US"

This is a quality/attribute that cannot be trained into someone. We all take great pride in how Qantas started, remains, and hopes to become. If the brand continues to succeed, we personally succeed. Though the board would like to make it a global brand like apple, first and foremost it will remain an Aussie Icon. We have a past together. Its like family. To Aussie staff, here or as expatriates....it is more than just a job.

Haven't read such a funny post in a long time bun tosser.

What a load of crap!

The London base is fab, I bet they don't go. I would have thought that the priority for the board would be to get rid of all the old has beens in Sydney and Brisbane.

A somewhat romanticised view... Removing those rose-tinted glasses would reveal that most of those blocked or banned brought it upon themselves by repeated bullying, harassment and abuse of others. Those banned have over time done for the general reputation of QANTAS and Australian Cabin Crew what Myxomatosis did for Rabbits - That is why they are either loathed or ignored by a massive majority of other PPRuNe users. In fact, they can only survive in the rarified atmosphere of the DG&P forums: External excursions usually prove fatal.
Passion, Pride & Loyalty have been used throughout history to justify all kinds of actions - both good and bad. As human qualities, they do not automatically make your position 'right' but they do make it emotional.
