I could make some sarcastic remarks, but I won't.

They've moved them via Antonov before, haven't they?

Would leasing an An-124 be more or less expensive than using a C-17? Does the Tornado had to be more or less 'broken down' to be fitted in an An-124?

But would a Tornado fit inside an A400M, I ask myself......

Good point about the A400M......

Anyone else more than a trifle concerned that the future AT plans for the RAF appear to be for no more than 25 J's and 25 A400M's plus about 9 wide bodied passenger carrying tanker conversions?

Quite a reduction compared to the current 25 J, 26 K, 4 C-17 plus those big wide freight door Tristars and 10's.

FSTA does not call for a freight door or reinforced floor and the A400M is larger than a C-130 but not by much.

How does all this fit with an expeditionery Air Force?

You wouldn't, per chance, be in the business of supplying (potential) future widebody capability to organisations that are currently short, would you?

Obviously a measure to save engine time now that the F3 has been retrofiited with Ardours to increase performance, which sadly, appear to fail about six times per 1000hrs,according to FI! <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

Tornado F3s re-engined with Adours? I don't think so. The Jag has trouble getting off the ground, I hate to think what putting them into an F3 would do!

The Antonov solution involved less work for the groundcrew as the F3 needed less things removing. Interestingly, (Only for gingers) the MOD news article didn't mention the man-hours for the strip-down and re-build of the aircraft (Last count about 4 weeks per airframe!!).. .Still with jets in the fleet that were once 4 seperate aircraft, we kind of put "Dodgy Joe's Garage Cut 'N' Shuts" to shame. Surely, all this dismantling can't be good for them; no wonder they limit our "g" in peacetime!

Any Gingers got any comments?
