Descend to What Height?!?

Any one heard any more about the plans to look at the future of these bases? . .A usually reliable source in the corridors of power told me last night that the latest rumour was there was a problem with the ownership of Mawgan, in that if the RAF moved out, it would have to go back to the original owners at the original price, and there was pressure (over the pond?)to keep it for stratigic reasons.. .Next rumour is thoughts to transfer the J, possibly to Brize.. .Lyneham runway too short, pavement loading too weak for the really big stuff.. .If, and it is a BIG IF, these thoughts are true, then what conclusion may be drawn?

This is a rumour network. These are rumours, but from a usually good source in Whitehall. I would just like to see if any one else has heard, or is this just wild speculation doing the usual rounds?

Yes, this is a rumour network! This was last discussed in "Large Station Closure!!!???" on 30 Nov 01. Go back and have a read, lots of opinions and rumour. Mainly that it will be the bent runway moving up to BZN!. .I believe that the review would last up to 4 months before any decisions were made, still some time to wait and make up rumours of the VC10 fleet moving to St Mawgan!
