G'day all

Im just looking for some recommendations in RE to hiring a TravelAir (or a B55, though not keen on climbing the ladder too fast) to head up to Central QLD in the coming weeks/month.
Unfortunately my usual airport/airfield which will remain unnanmed was more then happy to endorse me on Travelair/Baron types but will not hire to any person without an IR. Which puts me in a pickle.

I've been told to have a look around Moorabbin as there are a few BE95's floating around.
Any advice?
I've also been told to look out for UAJ or AEM though have no idea who operates them (shy searching through the register)

not really looking for an example with all the Gucci avionics, though a G430 and century III would be nice.

Thanks in advance

ps. If all else fails I'll have to take a P.68

130TT, NVFR, 6 hours on type

The Be95 (baby Baron) is a pretty forgiving aircraft while both are turning but can get a bit of a handful when one goes on holiday early in the flight.

I can quite understand owners being a bit reluctant to hire to low time pilots without IFR since they can overload people with little exposure to twins pretty quickly.

I don't think that you HAVE to be IFR rated to fly them, but the rating does give a pilot a mind set that is consistent with the level of machinery and planning it deserves.

A B55 would be better and worse unfortunately. The extra power helps when one quits, but conversely, it can turn nasty if the speed drops below the blue too much.
Also, the higher cruise speed can get you behind the aircraft that much easier if things get sticky in the wx department.
Both aircraft lend themselves to IFR, if only because as with most low-wing twins, the vis for nav and obstacle clearance is pretty awful.
At least there, the P68 is much better even if it's a bucket of lard on one donk.
I suspect too that most owner operators will have insurance requirements on the beech twins that dictate 250 hrs or IFR as a minimum.

Sorry about that.

AEM is Penninsula Aero Clubs Travalair from memory, could give them a buzz down at Tyabb

UAJ and AEM both belong to Schwarzey at The Aviation Centre at Moorabbin/Tyabb. They might hire to you direct for a big booking but the would normally cross hire through the PAC or any of the other Moorabbin schools listing Travelairs - you'll end up in the same plane. The Aviation Centre doesn't have the ability to check you out easily - hence they preferto crosshire but then you're paying 2 peoples profit margins.

Also try Jono at Lilydale Airport - although his does a lot of charter and so it might not be available.

With 130TT you would be lucky to have someone hire you a performance single. In fact I know you won't get the keys to a 210/A36 unless you have over 200TT even 300TT, plus 20 on type.

If you're one of these fellas doing a CPL in a twin you will find that it will go against you looking for your first job.

Do your CPL as cheaply as you can, get some high performance single time and get a job.

Worry about multi engine types when you have the experience to manage a problem safely. The only time multi engine time in your CPL will be handy is if you are working towards 50 hours command for your multi engine training approval later down the track.

IMO the spirit of the 50 hours command was not private hiring one and burning around the country side with another FI in the same situation but rather ensuring that the said candidate had commercial exposure operating one.

I agreee Green, I dont plan on throwing hard earned on CPL multi hours as it's a waste and the more I spend the more I have to be stuck in my current job....
Though I had the chance to do some initial twin hours at an increadibly good price, so I did it. 6 hours dual for $1500 cant be beat.

The reason I'm trying to source a BE95 is because I need to transport myself and 3 PAX to QLD and back, and unfortuantely the pax arn't exactly the standard 77kg, loading starts getting a bit tough when trying to fit them in an P28R (30kgs for fuel, haha not even enough for reserves)

plus a BE95 with a flight switch is cheaper then an arrow VDO @ $4/min

I'm more then happy taking a P68 though

6 hours on type and you dont know who to hire from? There are only 4 flying in aus and one is privately owned. Unless of course you've got 55 time/endo.

You can hire them without MECIR but not with those hours. Like was said with those hours you'd be lucky to get into an A36 let alone a 95.

Further to UTR's post...

UAJ & AEM generally live at MB. Get onto the PAC at Tyabb, or The Aviation Centre at MB or Tyabb.
MFS, and i think RVAC (:ugh:) & Tristar who are all at Moorabbin can crosshire them for you.

Not sure if they have any minimum requirements, but I got my hands on them with about 160hrs and my CPL (didnt really try before then).

UAJ flies like a charm :ok:

I disagree!
Now back to our normal programming...;)

Geez, UAJ and AEM were museum pieces back in the dark ages when I used to hire them from MB. :}

One of my kids fell asleep in one on a trip from melbourne to adelaide. Went deaf for a week afterwards in the ear that wasn't on the pillow.....

UAJ and AEM are made of about 15 other planes after each wheels up they have.
