Hello folks, I'm about to purchase my first own headset for GA propeller flying, I set my budget to about €300 - I was looking at the Sennheiser Range, someone recommended the HME 100 to me, now I noticed that they introduced a HME 110 as well (failed to spot the difference though except the colour). Which headsets can you recommend? I used the (€100) AirClassics HS-1 during my flight training which started to hurt after an hour or so - really uncomfortable...

Thanks a lot in advance,
STBYRUD

I'd put this in the Private Flying Forum rather than here, should get more responses there. :)

I'd be looking for an used Denali headset, like this one: Flightcom Denali Noise Cancelling Head Set:eBay Motors (item 330365480203 end time Oct-14-09 12:32:20 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Flightcom-Denali-Noise-Cancelling-Head-Set_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4ceb512d0bQQitemZ330365480203 QQptZMotorsQ5fAviationQ5fPartsQ5fGear)

Depending on how loud the aircraft is going to be which you will be flying, I'd recommend getting a higher budget and maybe looking at an active noise reduction headset.

Some I hear come with lifetime warranty and while the price to get one is quite steep, it should be worth your while as loss of hearing over the years due to a cheap headset in a loud tube is not nice I bet. :oh:

Hi STBYRUD.

have a look at Aviation (http://www.beyerdynamic.de/aviation/aviation.html)

You can customise your own headset. I used HS 300 Individual as flight
instructor for some time.No pain at all even after long days.

Another venerable brand of comms headsets:

Telex aviation headsets (http://www.telex.com/aircraft/)

FWIW, Beyer and Sennheiser, too, have a reputation for being purveyors of quality pairs o' cans.

But keep in mind that choice of headset is a very personal matter indeed. One man's preferred headset might be another man's most loathed torture instrument. You don't know until you've been wearing it for a day.

I'll stick to my AKG, but then I'm in a different line of work.

Thanks folks, I tried a couple in a shop the other day, now I own a nice pair of Sennheiser cans (HME110) - Very quiet in a C172, and surprisingly very good sound when connected to Hifi equipment ;) And 10 year warranty, not to forget.
