As of last sunday the LanChile union has started a slow down in order to prevent the slow but sure deterioration of pilots already meager working conditions.
Management in a paranoid
crusade to wipe unions out from the face of the earth, has started to buy off pilots from the union to make them walk off and join paper companies. Also they have transfered LanChile's simbolic routes like SCL PPT, to its subsidiaries and paper companies they have created to avoid dealing with the union.
Not much merit in a country where the laws are made for de powerful and the workers have no rights. I don't see much sense to crusade against a union where the best paid pilot is paid U$ 4000...And management makes international rates. Or is it a One World alliance policy to exterminate unions?...see Cathay, or aerlingus. The TACA experience didn't leave any lessons? TACA group passed from being a jewel of an airline to be one more struggling latin outfit because of management's tunnel vision. They focused their energy on disbanding the union and lost sight of their primary goal. Why is it that latin bussinessmen concentrate their bussiness strenght on cheap labor? Isn't the human resource the most important asset in a service industry? This company has its most important active on its people, extremely efficient management, maintenance to world standard, pilots trained to ISO 9000 quality, well educated people in all other areas, yet the administration fails to see what we would be able to acheive if we work together motivating people instead of destroying unions. Unions are not there to work against them, they are there to protect the rights of the workers. Specially in a country where they are non existant, because companies say that if we have them, we slow the economy down.Do we have to go to such extremes to make ourselves understood? Please understand that this is becoming a globalized world and as such, skills that are scarce are likely to be set globally too.
C'MON, STOP THE INSANITY.
