Can anyone please give me a steer as to where I can get one and how much it costs. I have already checked out the TGDA website. . . <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Just started my bridging package with Bristol, it cost £590. I’ve got to get a CRP 5 (that’s like a dalton only more confusing), seems like good value to me and I’ve learnt something (well there’s a first time for everything!).

Cheers SARBoy Loser - I'm assuming then that I can get one at Oxford Kid..Was there much of a waiting list and how long is the course – I have heard conflicting info.. .Apart from Linkup - which I am not eligible for, is there any other way of recouping some of the costs (officers education??)?

No waiting list, it's all by correspondance, which will give me something to do in the Falklands. They estimate 3-6 months to do the cse, but if your like me and spend 24hrs per shift at work you'll find at least 4hrs in the day to study. The books are excellent (if only AP3456 was as straight forward), and you get a nice CD rom to play with (again don't imagine it's like AP3456 CD!). Now enough like sounding like an advert for Bristol, I suppose it just comes as a bit of a culture shock when people are helpful and friendly and not trying to prove a point (written whilst warming hands on a large fire made up of ISS notes.). Still you do have to pay for the privilage, but it's worth it!!

Did you try claiming your 'educational allowance' from the blunties? I believe its about £200 and would help cover the cost, better than a kick in the @"&gt;%.

Oxford emailed me last week the following reply, to my enquiry about their courses:

"... I regret that we are having a few problems with the formal syllabus for the. .Rotary bridging course. As a result we do not have any plans to run the. .course in the immediate future. As you will appreciate there is a great deal. .of confusion over the Rotary ATPL syllabus, and we do not want to run a. .course until we are confident about the rules!..."

Their webpage has a similar £600 price tag for the bridging course.

Does anyone fully understand the hours requirements for the Rotary ATPL(H)?

As a Sea King operator in the RAF everytime you fly you log P1, whether you handle the controls or not.

Thus my question is do you need 1500 Hrs P1 or does it have to be 1500 Hrs P1 Captain?

The Navy guy at Yeovilton says P1 Captain, I have heard that the CAA has said P1 is good enough, but I don't know if the CAA understood the way that SAR guys log their hours.

I have asked the CAA and I await their response, but maybe someone out there knows already???

I have been told that all P1 hours count towards the 1500 required. I think the problem you will have is that you need to be a QSP, see deinition below.

** Defined as a pilot who has completed a recognised military course of flying training and has been awarded a pilot's flying badge in full compliance with QR(RAF) J727. (Post Certificate of Competence – RN).

Amazing - a retention package and we're all doing ATPLs. No surprise - for everyone who gets a bonus there seems to be one whose been shafted and prompted to leave - me included and I thought I had a glittering career ahead of me.

Anyway, isn't the ATPL(H) requirement for 350 hrs multi-crew experience? I think the 1500 is for FW. I believe you can count all time logged as P1 or captain with a QSP in other seat, but not dual time. The details are on a certificate you need to complete which is on the TGDA website.

Remember, as my good lady tells me watch the Torque on the way up and the droop on the way down.

From the horses mouth, well the CAA anyway.

the P1 requirement is P1 Captain. However we may have up to 500 hours of those 1500 hours can be P1 Under supervision.

For Sea King HAR 3 operators that means 1000 hours minimum of P1 Captain and 500 hours P1(left hand seat), but don't forget you need 2000 hours total anyway to qualify.

I will get it in writing from the CAA. Spoke a very helpful bloke called Mr White, who gave me the info once he fully understood what I was saying to him.
