Serious issues and not simple gripes though - you never know, they may get a mention tomorrow, rather than next years AFI (you wish)!!

Whilst there will certainly be some valid points hidden amongst the general free-for-all of PPRuNe, I do hope that your Captain Darling does not have too fine a mesh on his $hit filter before presenting you with information gleaned from this site.

For often it is those with passionately held and quite valid views who are perhaps least able to express them in perfect prose - and it would indeed be unfortunate if Captain Darling threw out the baby with the bath water!

Why would CAS want to gather info from PPRuNE? Like all airships he's already surrounded by truth-filtering sycophants who tell him exactly what he wants to know!

While I wouldn't suggest that there is 'internicene warfare' between the Groups (the ultimate 'customer'), the DLO, the DPA and Whitehall, I'd suggest that there are plenty of two- and three-stars who may be leaving CAS in little doubt as to the wisdom of his action (or lack thereof) on issues like the creeping menace of privatisation, and a variety of other PPRuNe favourites.

Having been totally pi55ed off that my 'handgrenade' draft reports used to be as threatening as soft toilet paper by the time they reached the 'starred' recipient after numerous re drafts as they went up the chain was surprised when found an AOC that liked to find out for himself.

He would often lose his minders on visits and sit in crewroom throwing topics around to see what response he got. His other favourite was to lose possee at Dinning Ins and 'socialise' with drunken JO's. Amazing what opions you could learn from inebriated youngsters. Possee used to follow in huddle and cringe which was good sport for us.

Best call was a certain S/L telling him his entire staff was cr@p whilst they listened intently from next group. AOC agreed with him - or was I to pickled and made that up?

Can anyone out ther help me with my thesis?

I am in a position where, despite my constitutional rights, I am denied access to the Air Force List (in fact my likeness appears on several "Ten Least Wanted" lists)

Soooo, what I need (would like) are statistics, with reliable verification on the following:-

a) How many aircraft do we have?
b) How many active bases do we still have in UK? (include those on Care and Maintenance, but not detatchments like Colerne)
c) How many Officers of Air rank do we have?

Sorry if I am being a bit of a Forum Hog, but this MAY be important to the continuation of the free world and civilisation as we now it!!

Of course, seeing as how your thesis is going to secure civilisation, you could always try buying a copy of the current Air Force List from HMSO, Amazon.co.uk or, heaven forbid, on special order through a book shop (Price: £22.00 ISBN 011772937X) - a small price to save the known world! :rolleyes: :(
