I have noticed several posters mention that they have colour slides that they are unable to scan or show. I would like to offer a service to anyone with good quality (subject must be sharp!) 35mm slides of aircraft taken before 1966. I have a Nikon Coolscan V ED digital laser scanner that makes superb quality scans of slides and I can correct any imperfections in Photoshop before putting them on a CD. All I ask is that I retain a copy of the image for my own archives. I started taking slides in 1966, so am only interested in scanning any slides taken before then, anything considered, military or civil. Please p.m. me if you would like to accept this offer. I live nr Jn.16 M4

We note that there is no charge for this service, which makes it a generous offer. Thank you.

It must remain thus but please do not make the thread a means of passing personal information.

Amos, once scanned it might be nice to see some of what you collect.

Yes quite agree. I am offering this service free of charge as I have no intention of using the forum for profiteering. Furthermore, this is for my benefit as much as it is the contributors, as I get to retain a good quality scan for my archives. Indeed I will upload anything worthwhile here providing the contributor agrees. There must be many ex RAF and airline staff that have taken slides on their travels and have them stashed away in a cupboard or in the attic. Now's your chance to embrace today's technology and view them on a PC !:ok:

Following my offer of a free service to scan and restore old colour slides, several former aircrew have contacted me and sent me their slides.
Here are some of the slides sent by 'Virgo' taken by former Sgt. Mike Bonnick who was an air engineer with 30 Squadron on Beverleys at Khormaksar. Alas the slides had been stored in a garage and had deteriorated quite badly, but I have managed to restore quite a few and thought I would share the results.

This first shot shows what happens when you do not keep colour slides in
ideal conditions like a garage or attic, when damp encourages fungal spores to attack the film enulsion. The subject is Beverley XL148 of 30 Squadron in Aden in 1967.

Here is the same slide after some TLC by me with the help of Photoshop.

and here are some more slides, after restoration, of Beverleys from 30 and 84 Squadrons taken at Muharraq in 1967.http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/Amoskeeto/XM106BeverleyC1RAFMEAF84SqnMuharraq.jpg

Finally, another 'before' and 'after' restoration shot of a 72 Squadron Wessex HC.2 on detachment in Aden in July 1968

If anyone else has similar slides that they would like restored and put on a CD, please pm me. My acceptance criteria is that the subject must at least be sharp and full-frame and be taken before 1967. Contacts from former RAF or airline aircrew especially welcome.
I am particularly keen to receive contacts from anyone that took colour slides of aircraft in the RAF during the 1950s and '60s stationed in the Far East (Butterworth,Malaysia, Borneo and Singapore - Changi, Seletar or Tengah) and in the Middle East (Bahrain - Khormaksar, Muharraq, Masirah etc.) and Malta. I would be pleased to scan and restore any slides taken during that period at those locations for free, but I cannot do miracles with 'dots in the distance' or blurred/out-of-focus slides. The subjects must be full-frame and sharp to start with.

Guys,

I'd like to show you another example of Mr "Keeto"s work.

I sent him some of my Dads slides. Here's an example

& this is the same image after the touch up.

The original pictures are much larger & without the watermarks.

I'm more than happy with the results.

Another slide collection recently loaned to me for restoration includes these shots all taken at RAF Lyneham in the mid-60s.
