Hi,

Does anyone know when the limit is official up. I hold a JAA PPL MEIR and am going to begin my CPL next week and will be done in two weeks. As this is the last thing i need to complete within the requirements does the limit expire from date of skills test past for the CPL or do i need the licence to be issued within the 36 months?

Thanks

It's a good question. Recently the UK CAA have applied a rule where the ATPL theory credits are frozen on acquisition of an IR. To be absolutely certain you need to check this with the CAA.

Not really sure if this was the question but:

The 36 month limit is held against the date of the last skill test (either CPL or IR) - for you that would be the CPL.
Some CAA's has been known to accept that you have just booked the skill test within the limit (due to 3-4 weeks delay from booking time to actual skill test).

In other words, maximum 36 month from your last ATPL theoretical exam and to the date of the last skill test.

Your JAR-FCL ATPL(A) theory exams will remain valid for 36 months for the issue of an IR(A) and/or an ATPL(A). After this, as long as you are holding a valid JAR-FCL CPL(A) and IR(A), the same ATPL theory credit will remain valid until 7 years after any lapse of your CPL or IR. All according to JAR-FCL.

Sounds like you're okay since you've got the IR....
LASORS J1.7 JAR-FCL THEORETICAL
KNOWLEDGE EXAMINATION
ACCEPTANCE PERIOD
Potential candidates for the JAR-FCL ATPL theoretical
knowledge examinations should first consider the
implications of JAR-FCL 1.495 or 2.495 that relates to the
Acceptance Period.
A pass in the ATPL theory examinations will be accepted
for the issue of a CPL or IR during the 36 months from
the end of the month of the date of the final pass in the
examinations*. Provided that an IR is obtained during
this period, a pass in the ATPL theoretical knowledge
examinations will remain valid (for the purpose of ATPL
issue) for a period of 7 years from the validity date of the
most recent renewal IR entered in the CPL.
* All requirements for the issue of the CPL and IR must
be met and the applicant required to apply to PLD for
issue within the 36 month validity period of the theoretical
knowledge examination.
