Was this the No1 B412 still at work......

Two men have been rescued in the Torres Strait.

Police say their fishing trawler starting sinking near Stephen Island early this morning.

An Emergency Services spokeswoman says the pair got into a lifeboat and activated an emergency beacon.

A helicopter then winched them to safety, around 2am AEST.

They have been taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

Well done to the crew.

Night winch overwater? Does this machine have autohover / NVG capability?

Perhaps the "reported" time frame is wrong.

Anyway ... Well done guys

Unless things have changed in the last few months, night over-water winching was not on the menu.

Maybe the boat was near enough to the land to have a visual reference, but that poor old bird certainly doesn't have auto-hover.

Well done Scooter/Dilbert:8

Ascend Charlie is right. The "old girl" definitely does not have auto hover. She may have the number 001 serial number, however she is more than capable of the tasking that is asked of her. Although the boat may have sunk around 0230, I can assure you that the survivors were not winched until daylight.

Perhaps not as remarkable as the two you plucked from the floating esky a few months ago,...but another good result Terry. Well done to you, RW and the crewman.:ok:

BTW,....the unlucky vessel that rolled over and then sank was a fishing trawler named POSEIDON. Probably not the best name for a boat! :bored:

VH-EMQ (B412 #1) does not have auto-hover and as YHID based crew, I can definately confirm that there was not a 2:00am winch.

The guys undertook a daylight winch and well done.:D
