After buying second hand South African Pumas the RAF is considering buying ex Saudi C-130's as a stop gap between to make up for a short fall in airlift capacity between the end of the C-130K and the arrival (if it ever comes) A400M.

Heard this today from a reliable source at the future London Swindon Intl Airport.

........and Danish Merlins?

Is there an MoD team scouring the world's second-hand aircraft lots?

Two teams actually.

One buying up aircraft cheap.

The other creating a workd-wide demand for essential spares which naturally will increase in price.

You might want to check your source again...but why let the truth get in the way of a good story...

When I was at PSAB there were tons of the things, and they didn't do much flying (much like the Tornado, but for different reasons!) so they won't have too many miles on the clock.
