Hi,

I heard on the radio news that there had been an accident at LFMD. The information was limited as can be expected from regular news, including that it was a cessna and 5 people are reported killed. Anybody have any more info on this?

CALLAS, Var — Cinq personnes sont mortes dimanche dans l'accident d'un petit avion de tourisme qui s'est écrasé à Callas, au nord-est de Draguignan dans le Var, ont annoncé les gendarmes et les pompiers.

L'appareil s'est abîmé peu avant 10H00 dans un massif boisé très proche d'habitations avant de prendre feu, tuant les cinq occupants, a-t-on appris de même source.

Selon une source proche de l'enquête, il s'agirait d'un Socata monomoteur de type TB9 - et non d'un Cessna comme indiqué précédemment - avec à son bord cinq personnes, dont deux enfants de 8 et 13 ans. Il avait décollé de l'aéroport de Cannes Mandelieu et devait se rendre à Alès.

L'identité des victimes n'était pas encore connue à la mi-journée.

"Les murs de la maison ont vibré, c'était comme une bouteille de gaz qui venait d'exploser", a témoigné à l'AFP un voisin qui a entendu un grand bruit au moment de l'accident.

Avec un autre voisin, qui lui a vu l'avion s'approcher le moteur coupé, "nous avons pris des tuyaux d'arrosage mais nous n'avons rien pu faire", a-t-il poursuivi.

Un autre témoin, Patrice Mamoletti, résidant au camping des Blimouses, situé à quelques centaines de mètres du crash, a entendu vers 09H00 "un drôle de bruit de moteur". "L'avion a rasé les arbres. Un peu plus bas et il était pour nous! Il a touché les arbres, est parti en vrille et a explosé" en touchant le sol, a-t-il raconté.

Selon un autre vacancier, Michael Fritschi, "le moteur était coupé et l'avion a vrillé, plongé", et "un gros panache de fumée" s'est ensuite dégagé des arbres.

Le parquet de Draguignan ainsi que la brigade des transports aériens de Nice ont été saisis.

Un périmètre de sécurité a été installé autour de l'appareil disloqué et restait sous surveillance du peloton de surveillance et d'intervention de la gendarmerie (PSIG) de Draguignan.

The TB series are 4/5 seaters...
So TB9 would be 4 adults or 3 adults and 2 kids.
TB10 & TB20 are 5 adults even that the airframe and the seats are exactly the same... :bored:
