Hardly skidded off by all accounts - looks like the nose wheel slipped off the surface. A non-event I think!

Non-event ??

Airport closed for 4 hours etc etc .

The nosewheel will ' only slip off the surface' if it gets to the edge of the paved surface. Bit like 'only slipping off the road' when you go in a ditch ?

The general idea of operating an aircraft on the ground involves being able to see where you are guiding the aircraft at all times , and being able to control its speed and direction , otherwise you stop and ask for assistance / advise ATC etc. This includes fog , excess surface water , ice etc.

Taxiing is listed as a 'critical' stage of the 'flight ' .

From the pictures in the paper it looked like it more than slipped of the runway. According to reports it traveled 3.5 meters into the grass. Considering monsoon rains could it be case of Hydro Planing?

whatever be the hydroplaning speed.. for the boeing 737NG it will be above 60 kts.. even if it were bald tyres..

the runway excursion happened..in the taxying phase of the flight.. and at the end of the runway when the pilot was turning around for lineup....there is a boeing limitation of not to exceed 7 knots speed for turns and if the surface condition is seen experienced undulating/ rough or slippery one could slow down upto 2 kts....worst case stop and ask for the tow truck..

pure act of indiscipline and so the aircraft went off.. it is a long runway at dhaka.. no reason to go to the edge for lineup and show-off.. this was a very stupid and irresponsible piloting act...
