It's just a flesh wound!

A few lengths of Aloominum speed tape and an ADD or 2, then she'll be a runner.

There was an article in todays SCMP about it.

Looks like the classic T700 inlet cowl failure.

A330 suffers inlet cowl failure-28/11/2006-Flight International (http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2006/11/28/210792/a330-suffers-inlet-cowl-failure.html)

...and that should put an end to those ADD's referring to "acoustic lining holed in 2 places."

Signed out "visual inspection carried out after 'percussion noise' heard, high speed tape applied, unable to fault on ground, not in KA colours, no time to fix, byte test carried out, test ok, please report further."

Has it become that bad Lowkoon ? My memories, especially TPE and Japanese stations was superb maint services

Yes, the TPE and Japan stations were tradinionally very good. I still get to both fairly regularly. Japan seems to be still holding up as a fixit place. TPE is still pretty good, but both come under immense pressure to make OTP.

Well Seldomfix (an appropriate name for the thread), we have lost NRT and FUK, and a lot of our TPEs are being done by CX on KA call signs, but we turn a blind eye to that for some reason. We are getting rid of 330s while someone else is doing our flying? Im sure if the opposite were true, there would be serious ****e I would imagine.

How many engine failures do you need to have in a year before CAD questions your ETOPS Qual? (A genuine question, does anyone know?)

jonathon68
17th Aug 2009, 04:38
actually the question should be how many engine failures/shutdowns on ETOPS flights since that is supposedly what counts.

Lowkoon
17th Aug 2009, 14:18
So jon, if the aircraft is etops certified, but not on an etops flight plan when it has the failure it doesn't effect etops qual?

Lowkoon,

Re: post number 10...

How about the 912-913 Manila rotation and the Hanoi, both now flown by KA?

Or do A320 patterns not count?

spannersatcx

It's irrelevant whether the a/c is on an 'ETOPS' flt or not, failures of some items on the 340 can affect the 330's ETOPS capability as well.

Thanks spanners, I thought so...

GF in Akoma, I forgot to add BKK, and the Australian expansion plans, (yes, we did purchase 3 330s to do it, but CX vetoed the move), Manchester, Dubai, ie the entire freighter network. Yep, Hanoi and manilla, what a trade off.... As the now ex CEO 'Who killed Kenny' would say, "another exciting month for Dragonair!"

Don't forget FUK...now flown by KA and all the frequencies and destinations added after CX started to feed more traffic to them.

Hanoi however is not somewhere ever flown by CX passenger planes so that doesn't count. it has only ever been a code share with Vietnam Airlines...unless you count the prop 'good old' days.

geh065, KA dropped FUK too. I guess we are not alchemists. We can't make a silk purse out of of a sows ear? Pitty.

geh065, so all the Hanoi turnarounds I flew in a CX A340 were just a bad dream?

CX has been flying to Manchester in 1 form or another for 20 years!

SCMP...

Updated on Aug 15, 2009 The captain of a plane about to fly to Hong Kong from Shanghai aborted the flight just before take-off because of damage to one of its engines. No one was injured in the incident.

The Dragonair Airbus A330 was carrying 218 passengers and 13 crew when the incident occurred on Thursday morning, the airline said.

The carrier said that in light of the damage, the captain decided to return the plane to its bay. At no time did the incident pose a danger to those on board, it said.
The aircraft had been about to take off at 9.41am, but returned to its bay at 10.05am.

Another Dragonair plane was arranged to fly the passengers to Hong Kong on Thursday afternoon.

The carrier said the engine would be replaced in Shanghai before the aircraft returned to the skies.

Flight KA871 normally departs from Shanghai's Pudong International Airport at 8.20am every day and arrives in Hong Kong at 11am, according to flight schedules on the Dragonair website.
Dragonair said it had launched a joint investigation with the aircraft and engine manufacturers to determine the cause of the incident and that it would take any necessary follow-up action. The company said routine inspections of its aircraft were carried out.
