View Full Version : Need advice on BA Club World upper deck...

............Would appreciate advice on BA upper-deck club seating. For myself and another.

Have never chosen 747-400 upper deck previously since bad experience with another carrier. This was due to there being no overhead lockers (due fuselage reduced volume if memory serves) and nowhere to stow cabin baggage close by ( i.e. fragile or valuable item) unless A or K seats.

BA seating plan would seem to imply same problem with new Club World, and I found call centre info not entirely convincing.

Below stairs is fine, but I've seen a couple of grumpy exchanges with somnambulant flat bedded occupants being clumsily stepped over by less than entirely agile neighbours, but that's a risk for the config anyway.

........I know, mustn't grumble.

Upper deck CW is 4 abreast in 2-2 configuration. There are overhead bins (see this image: Photos: Boeing 747-436 Aircraft Pictures | Airliners.net (http://www.airliners.net/photo/British-Airways/Boeing-747-436/1370596/&sid=3226640d454a17a35631e6a836e2b45e)) and I believe there are additional bins next to the A and K seats between the seat and fuselage.

The new CW seat includes a storage drawer anyway, ideal for a laptop for example - check out the tour: Club World - British Airways (http://www.britishairways.com/travel/cwexp/public/en_gb)

There are two configurations, but the upper deck are the same on both. Row 62 is reputedly to be one of the best onboard.

Hi,

Unless you are on a full fare ticket or have BA/OW status you may not be able to choose seats until T-24 when OLCI opens ( and upper deck seats may be gone by then)

However ,

62AB,62JK, 64AB,64JK are the better seats on board with the window seats having almosr unlimited leg room andthe window pax can get to the aisle without stepping over the aisle pax legs.

Window seats do have the side storage bins.

64 is closer to the rear lavatory, galley and stairs.

The overhead lockers may be a bit smaller than those downstairs.

.........Brilliant...thanks comrades for the excellent and speedy response.

My routine trip is LHR JFK, so hardly longhaul by some people's standards these days. 14 hours + would be more important, and even seven hours + for the serious biz community I guess.

Since I'm retired, I'm able to buy my trips well in advance, but at a bargain basement full-fare price that limits seat choice to -24hr. Cherished customers on higher cost tickets can bag the cherished seats early on of course......seems fair.

......Should be ashamed of myself really, since I'm an ex BCal and BA 747 driver, and even operated two or three of the BA 747-400's on their first revenue earning sectors 1990ish. They made us retire at age 50 or 55, so having started a new career that didn't involve being assigned a seat with a forward view, I'm way out of date on all the various updates and configuration changes. I remember the upper deck emergency evacuation door and slide operation though.....waay more fun than the main deck version....

Hi,

Also 62K is just ahead of the right hand side emergency exit door ( and as you face backwards you are just ahead of it which gives you the extra space.)

An extra bonus is that you are facing the cabin crew seats so you may be able to have a brief chat with them on take off and approach and landing. (62A does not have this bonus)

Flying from LHR you will have Galleries Club access ( both North and South and T5B) and you may be able to book a Elemis Spa treatment ( LHR and JFK)

The introduction of the 400 was a technical challenge in 1990 ish. As a frequent Asia passenger at the time, in quite a short period of time I was, 1. Diverted to Athens, 2. Diverted to Schiphol, and 3. Passed over to SQ to Man as BA couldn't fly their 400 anywhere.

As a now infrequent Club traveller, thanks to all for the seat tips!

If the premium transatlantic traffic is as bad as everybody says then there may be only one or two others in Club World.
